Martin Luther King, Jr., Weekend Celebration 2008
Join us for one of Southern California’s largest and most diverse celebrations
of the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., honoring his memory and his
work toward nonviolence. Keynote Speakers: Baha’i spiritual leaders Firuz
Kazemzadeh and Wilma Ellis, both actively involved in international issues,
particularly in the area of religious freedom. The multiethnic interfaith program
includes inspirational readings, music, and presentations of scholarships. Immediately
following the program, a Community Involvement Fair (held nearby, at 606 Wilshire
Blvd.) offers refreshments and informational displays by a variety of community

SMC Concert Chorale:
A Festival of Music
Dr. James Smith, Conductor. The SMC Concert Chorale will
join with the First United Methodist Church Chancel Choir and the Los Angeles
Concert Orchestra to present a program that includes Fauré’s Requiem
and a 100th anniversary tribute to noted American composer and musicologist
Halsey Stevens, featuring his Magnificat and a selection of other compositions.
